- Alternative accommodations
We have exceed our reservation block at the Renaissance Hotel.
Alternative accommodations have been arranged for NAFIWC
participants at the Best Western Asheville -Biltmore (22
Woodfin St.). The rate is $74.00/night. The telephone
number for reservations is: 828 253 1851.
Please tell the reservations clerk that you are with the
NAFIWC. This Best Western is a short walk from the Renaissance
Hotel and should not be too much of an inconvenience.
- The DENDROCTONUS CUP golf tournament will be held at Reems Creek Golf
Club <http://www.reemscreekgolf.com/> on Monday, May 22nd.
The first Tee time has been set for 8:54 am so that participants can return to the conference for afternoon meetings. Rusty Rhea has organized this inaugural event - a logical extension of the famous FRONTALIS CUP, which is contested annually at the SFIWC.
If you are interested in playing please contact Rusty via the phone or email: Phone 828 257-4314, email <rrhea@fs.fed.us>. The cost is $47.00 and includes green fee, cart, and lunch. If you have special requests for playing partners please contact Rusty. A trophy will be presented to the medalist.
- The Third Workshop on Genetics of Bark Beetles and Associated
Microorganisms will be held at the Renaissance in Asheville May 20 & 21, the Saturday and Sunday just before NAFIWC.

- Attention!
Federal per diem rates in Asheville, NC have been lowered from $81 in FY 05 to $63 in FY 06. This will require federal employees to apply for Actual Subsistence and a special AD 202 – Travel Authorization to stay at the meeting hotel.
- Travel Support to participate in the ’06 NAFIWC.
We have limited funds (five stipends @$1000 each) to help with travel expenses. We would like to provide the support to individuals who are participating in the scheduled program of the ’06 NAFIWC and who do not have sufficient travel funds from their parent organization.
